I am sure you may know this… but here is the difference between digital marketing and social media 💦

Although these two concepts may seem similar, they are not identical but rather complement each other, much like a mother-and-child relationship.. 😃

It is crucial to strike a balance between the significance of digital marketing and social media tactics, aligning them with your personal and company goals. Consider them as practical and cost-effective methods to effectively engage customers, expand your audience reach, and foster brand loyalty beyond your immediate geographical boundaries..

For emerging businesses and professionals, embracing digital marketing and social media tactics is essential for effectively reaching their target audience beyond geographical borders.

Unleash Success: Top 5 Digital Marketing Strategies for Your Growth!

We acknowledge that we don't have all the answers, and there are numerous strategies to consider when developing your digital marketing approach. However, the right strategy for you depends on your budget and objectives. With that said, here are our top 5 strategies to help you decide on a digital marketing approach.

A. Content Marketing and Promotion

To captivate and retain your target audience, it's crucial to carve out a niche and craft compelling content for publication. Thankfully, there are free content creation websites that can serve as a starting point. Whether it's through blog posts, videos, infographics, or social media posts, there are various formats to choose from. Platforms like Medium and WordPress offer opportunities to create accounts and share content on a wide range of topics, from tourism to blockchain, healthcare to agriculture. Don't limit yourself to just one platform – I personally use Medium, WordPress, and YouTube for content creation. Over time, building your audience and establishing yourself as an authority in your subject matter can open doors to opportunities such as jobs, grants, scholarships, or funding for your startup idea.

Don’t forget to post regularly so you can keep your audience engaged and don’t keep them waiting!!!

B. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO, or search engine optimisation, is the art of optimising a website's content and structure to improve its visibility in search engine results pages. When creating a blog post or video, it's important to incorporate relevant keywords in your titles and descriptions to make it easily indexable by search engines like Google. SEO is a powerful tool for generating organic traffic, which refers to visitors who arrive at your website naturally without paid advertising. It's crucial to prioritise SEO to increase user visits to your website from Google and boost your online presence.

B. Social Media Marketing

The great news is that social media channels are accessible to all of us, and we can leverage them to reach our target audience with our content. For instance, you can transform your WhatsApp status into a WhatsApp TV to promote your products, blogposts or even collaborate with businesses for paid advertisements.

You can effectively promote yourself or your business by joining the right communities on WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. Identifying your strengths and focusing on honing them to make the most of these platforms for personal or business branding is essential.

Tip: An excellent strategy to use social media to sell your content or products on your digital channels. For instance, if you have an ecommerce store or health education website, you can use social media to drive traffic and sales to the digital content and sales channels.

C. Email Marketing

Once you have established a community or gained followers through your digital channels, such as a website, you can leverage direct marketing by sending promotional emails to your community. Email marketing can be highly effective as it allows you to communicate with your clients directly and send them personalised messages. I think keeping your community informed about any updates or changes you make is crucial to maintaining engagement and fostering a strong relationship with your audience.

D. Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Advertising

Run targeted PPC campaigns on platforms like Google Ads and social media platforms to drive immediate traffic and conversions. Conduct keyword research, create compelling ad copy, and optimise your campaigns to get the best return on investment (ROI). The approach can be expensive and needs an expert to guide you.

To Sum Up…. digital and social media is a cheap route to selling your skills, product or services, whether you are a student or an upcoming startup. Get the Strategy right.

Until next time,

Updates and Discussion

How Brian Odhiambo Used Social Media to sell digital arts

I want to highlight the story of a student who built his brand using social media and made money from it.

An example of an African student using social media to build their brand is Brian Odhiambo, a Kenyan student who used social media to showcase his talent in digital art.

Brian started by creating a social media account on Instagram where he shared his digital art pieces. He used relevant hashtags to increase his reach and visibility and engaged with his followers through comments and direct messages. As his following grew, he started to receive commissions for his work, which helped to establish his brand as a digital artist further.

Through his consistent use of social media, Brian was able to showcase his talent to a wider audience and establish himself as a skilled digital artist. He has since used his social media presence to secure opportunities, including collaborations with brands and showcasing his work at art exhibitions.
